The SMARTMED Project into the lasts Events of the PANORAMED Project!
After almost five years of implementation, Panoramed is nearing its conclusion. This ambitious, innovative, and complex project, led by Spanish Ministry of Finance and Public Administration, was part of the Interreg Med Programme and brought together 21 partners from 12 member states in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The SMARTMED Project has been part of the PANORAMED’s journey since the beginning, as one of his two strategic projects for Maritime & Coastal tourism, along with the BESTMED Project. With this in mind, SMARTMED participated and accompanied PANORAMED during its last two events, the High-Level Event and the Closure Event.
The High-Level Event organised by the tourism team of PANORAMED took place the 23rd of March 2022, in Zagreb and online with the title “Better Governance for Smarter and More Resilient Tourism in the MED”. The aim of the Event was to support shared policy approaches, but also to enhance a structured dialogue with the most relevant Mediterranean tourism stakeholders. Finally, one of the aims was to attain practical recommendations on tourism and governance. To address these topics, particular emphasis was placed on the two strategic projects SMARTMED and BESTMED.
As the SMARTMED lead partner, the Croatian Ministry of Tourism and Sport highlighted the role of data in the decision-making and public policies of tourism stakeholders. In the same idea, our lead partner paid particular attention to the main challenges encountered during the SMARTMED project, while underlining that these challenges had been considered in the Transition Pathway of Tourism launched by the European Commission and co-built with stakeholders.
Following this event, the Closure Event of Panoramed took place on the 6th of April 2022, ending this project that has been running for almost 5 years. With the aim of taking stock of the achievements of the PANORAMED project, this event was an opportunity for SMARTMED to present its contributions.
The Intermediterranean Commission of the CPMR presented the main achievements of the project, such as the SMART Tourism Business Model but also the future E-Learning Platform and Innovation Hubs.
The Croatian Ministry of Tourism and Sport also participated into a wrapped-up discussion about tourism, putting forward the main takeaway from the SMARTMED experience, as its multilevel approach including all stakeholders at different levels, identifying common territorial needs and challenges on sustainable tourism and smart solutions.
